We are wondering how other Health Care Systems are managing multiple GTINs for the same item and UOM. In the Item Master we load GTINs for implants and then push those via an item master feed to Epic Optime for implant log documentation. We are just starting to load non-OR implants also for ancillary departments to scan and log in Optime for meaningful use requirements. During this phase we have seen multiple GTINs assigned to 1 manufacture unique device. The only difference I am finding using AccessGUDID is the Commercial Distribution End Date. What concerns me is we could have the same product in 2 of our hospitals that have difference GTINs on the product. Is anyone else seeing this issue? Anyone figured out how to manage this problem? Since we cannot have 2 active GTINS records for the same manufacture and UOM we are not sure how to manage other than update to the most recent GTIN as notified but knowing we could have older product at a care site. Thoughts?
