Pad spaces upto 30 characters

I am trying to make the PRESENTATIONSNAPSHOTAME field to be 30 characters for a downstream application. When I use the function below, it is not respecting the field length in IPA v11. Any advice?

Good morning! I am not familiar with this field (you may be on a newer version than we are), but we interface our Lawson system to a mainframe here and create a lot of fixed length flat files, so I can give you a technique to try.

To pad a field on the left or the right, concatenate a string of spaces or zeroes that equals the total size of your field to the field to be padded. Then select the leftmost (for right-padding) or rightmost (for left-padding) xx chars, where xx equals the total size of your field. Note, if you are left padding a number with zeroes, you have to convert the number to a string. We normally do this part in the SQL when selecting the data, using nested functions. When you output the resulting variable to a file, it should have the padding there. If the right-padded field is the last field in your output file and it is dropping the spaces, try using a different character to pad, and then replace that character with spaces in your output file, to see if that helps.

Like pbelsky, I am not familiar with that field or its field length. I am assuming that the field is smaller than 30 characters. If that is the case use addTrailingSpaces(PRESENTATIONNAMESNAPSHOT,30) or addLeadingSpaces if the field needs to be right justified.

I was using AddTrailingSpaces in a workflow to add 509 characters. This worked fine until CU-21 this month. Now it is limited to 100 characters. We are MT. I opened a ticket with Infor and they are working on a JT. My workaround of course was to use 100 * 5 then 9 more.

I think you'll need to do a combination of truncating Presentation Snapshot to 30 characters with substring (since it could be longer than 30) then add the trailing spaces for those that have fewer than 30 characters.

In your expression in the Assign block you might have something like this.

addTrailingSpaces(Substring(LMTxn9800_PresentationNameSnapshot,1,30),30, 0)

Yep, I tend to shy away from using infor's function library because I don't control them - the sql functions are stable. Hey Ed, since All the IPD functions live in pflow.js, which is updateable, have you considered just adding the old version of AddTrailingSpaces in there with a new name, or modifying the new version yourself?

How are you pulling PRESENTATIONNAMESNAPSHOT into IPA? SQL or Landmark node?
