Payroll users- are you using some ESS functions?

Curious if you let your employees do the following via ESS or if you have manual process to only allow changes thru your Payroll Dept.

1. Direct Deposit changes/adds. Like change the amount or % deposited on accounts

2. Tax changes for federal or state

And if you are utilizing these, is there a lot of setup or problems with allowing employees to do this on their own

We have all adds/changes to direct deposit accounts through ESS for more than a year now. We do the same for taxes. We have our new accounts prenote to see if there are any issues before the net pay is sent. We don't allow employees to claim exempt in ESS. We actually have encountered very few issues with having the employees do this on their own.

We allow for both changes via ESS. We do not allow employees to select EXEMPT on the W-4 tax changes. For direct deposit changes, we have hard coded that the email confirmations must be sent to the employee's company email and to the company's general payroll department mailbox for security reasons. The person submitting the direct deposit change can not cancel/divert the email confirmation message.
