2020 W4 Patching

Wondering what others are encountering as they install the W4 patching.

1. CTP patching - We have applied CTP 121211 (v10) and discovered errors with the PADICT2 (duplicate record) & PADICT (non-numeric data) loads. Working with Support to get them fixed. Did anyone else encounter this issue and if so, did you go ahead and start your testing anyway? We are reluctant to start testing in case the errored records will cause us trouble.

2. EMSS patching - for those that have customized EMSS, are you patching EMSS & retrofitting customizations right away or will you be disabling the EMSS W4 bookmark and moving to a hardcopy W4 form until EMSS can be thoroughly tested?

Do you know the CTP number for EMSS?

I don't think it's a CTP patch, I think it's more like a new patch level for EMSS. We are on EMSS 10.0.8.0 and the patch we are looking at is SHR_1000080047_14_patch. The last line for the README file for that patch has a description of "2020 W-4 Updates". Look in the Download Center under Human Resources Management and then your release level of EMSS.

Doug Paul is correct. EMSS patches are not delivered via CTP. You need to access the SHR_1000080047_14 patch from the Download Center under Human Resources Management.

How do we find the EMSS version we are on?

in LID, type the following command: rngdbdump -c logan version

You can also look at your $WEBDIR/lawson/xhrnet/xml/config/emss_config.xml file. There should be a line in near the top that reads like: <emss fileVersion="10.00.08.00.24"> . We're running on an AIX system so things might be different for you.

We are on 10.0.7 also and it doesn't look like they have issued the patch yet. We are looking at upgrading to 10.0.8 which has it.

We're on 10.0.7 as well still waiting on the patch (just put in a ticket since it was supposed to be done on Monday). I did ask about 10.0.8 but as I understand, you have to be on MSP 10.0.8 as well to take that.

When I look at the install guide it says that you need to be on 10.0.x for Lawson Applications. We are on MSP 10.0.7 so I believe you can install EMSS 10.0.8.

If you are on base EMSS version 10.0.8, you need to apply the 10.0.8 patch. If you are on base EMSS version 10.0.7, you need to apply the 10.0.7 patch (you cannot apply the 10.0.8 patch).

The 10.0.7 patch for EMSS will hopefully be available later today or tomorrow morning.

We applied the patch but are having issues with the PR13. When entering data to the new fields on PR13 and clicking change , the change complete continue message appears, but then when clicking inquire, all the data is gone. It appears it is not writing to the table as it should be. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I was able to get it to stay - are you using the change function code on the federal line?

For those of you that installed the CTP 121211 patch for v10.0, did the install create an error in the apploadcsv.log in regard to the load of the PADICT2 & PADICT csv files? We received the following errors and are holding on testing until a fix CTP has been created (JT-1365902 ).

I am trying to get some clarity on this issue since we've recently applied the 2020-W4 CTP to our 10.0.9 LSF.

The aforementioned CTP was a requirement for BSI TaxFactory Cyclic 10.0w which we are on. Applying this patch would supposedly let our payroll team be able to test the 2020 W4 functionality. Now, as far as EMSS, we are currently on 10.0.7. In order for our Payroll team to test - do we have to also update 10.0.7 EMSS version??

For anyone who applied the 10.0.8 EMSS patch, did they update the payment modeling too? Or will that be wrong for employees?

We ended up purging the PADICT2 table using the HR100 selecting the PADICT2 table only. And then loaded the padict2.csv manually through LID using the importdb utility. There is a patch in development for the non-numeric error encountered with the padict.csv load - no workaround for that. The JT for the padict non-numeric issue is JT 1365902 (we are on version 10.0.6)

What if you are at version 11 for EMSS?

There is no such thing as 'version 11 for EMSS'.

Are you referring to GHR Talent Management? If so, you would need to post a message in that forum, or open a support incident with your questions.

We are on 10.0.7 version, but it looks like we are pretty far pack with patch levels. Are the patches cumulative where we would have to install each version level first, or can you throw on right at version 37?

We also have certain customizations in ESS, so I would also need to know what parts would need to be saved / copied before applying?

Has anyone been able to determine if ESS clears out the PR13.1 Exempt Number field if your system date is 2020? If it doesn't how are you going to remove it since the data is still used if the employee doesn't fill out a new 2020 W-4?

From my initial test, it doesn't remove it. However, I'm hoping that the tax calculation is smart enough to ignore it if the form is set to 2020. Haven't fully tested yet though.

Exemptions need to remain because as you said, they are still valid for those people who do not fill out a W-4 in 2020. When the tax data is sent to BSI, if there is a Form Year populated, BSI will ignore the tax data received from prior years (i.e. Exemptions) that is no longer valid.

If you were to use the IRS Excel file Income Tax Withholding Assistant for Employers, for W4's prior to 2020 there is a field for number of withholding allowances.

So you are saying that on Tax Info 2 tab we should always populate Form Year with 2020 regardless if the employee isn't populating any of the other fields (Multiple Jobs, Dependents, Other Income, Deductions)?

If the employee is filing a new 2020 W-4, then yes.

Apologies, I should have read a bit further regarding the import errors (padict and padict2) for the JT impact. Can someone tell me what the possible impacts of not applying the patch would be? How we can verify that the padict2 table contains the necessary values required from the imported data?

Also can anyone tell me if the 10.0.7.37 patch is cumulative? Like do you have to install 14-36 first before you install 37, or can you just jump from say 10.0.7.14 right to 37?

We just tried to install 10.0.7.37 but its says we have dependencies that are not installed. We are currently on 10.07.15 so I am not sure what its talking about. Have you tried to launch it without going all the way through to the update to see what it does?

Do you know what it means by dependencies? Do you think it is because you are that far back? We are as well, but I just asked lawson if we had to patch up to the patch level they just put out. I was told no that you do not have to, that we would just be able to apply the patch 10.0.7.085_37

I opened a case telling them its not allowing us to run patch 37. I am not sure what this naming is on the 10.0.7.085_37 is because our current version is 10.00.07.00.15 and that is directly from config file.

The CTP fix for the padict error has been released but was not included in the Weekly Patching Notification that was sent out on Monday 12/23. If anyone needs the patch, here it is - KB 2105511 CTP-121434

I have CTP 121434 but I see it only fixes PADICT.

Can you give me more specifics on what you have done?

It looks like you ran HR100 for PADICT2 only to purge.

Then you ran importdb. Some questions on that:

1 - What data did you import? The exact data that you purged? Or data from another test area?

2 - What specifically was the import command that you used?

Then did you run HR100 for PADICT to purge? (I see the CTP mentions to do that.)

Then did you load the CTP and did it load correctly?

We installed ctp 121211 and started to do preliminary testing. One tester indicated she is entering Marital Status as Married Both Spouses Working, 0 Federal exemptions on ESS, but when we check PR13, the Federal Exempt Number field shows 5. Any idea what could be causing this?

Other client said: We did the HR100 purge for PADICT2, then the importdb -afu command to reload it using the padict2.csv that was provided in CTP 121211. You may want to consult with Support before doing this - reference our ticket # to expedite. Ticket # 14154743. The new patch only fixed the padict table (non numeric data error).

I had my own ticket already so asked it be sent to second level support. They told me to complete processing of CTP 121434 as I had only done Preview. So I plan on doing that and then getting back to them on PADICT2.

Hello. We experienced this but we figured out what to do. You will need to place a 'C' next to your federal deduction code under FC then click Change.

Is anyone getting the federal taxes to work correctly? We've installed all of the patches including the one for PADICT and are up to date on our BSI bulletins. We enter 2020 into the form year on PR13 and then enter different values into the new fields and no matter what we enter, the federal taxes don't change (and are incorrect). We've confirmed that our changes are saving on PR13. We opened a ticket with Infor but they weren't able to replicate so suggested we open a ticket with BSI. We did that mid-day today and are still waiting on a response from them. We are running our first payment in production on Thursday so need this fixed ASAP.

Yes I can balance with taxes. If it is a 2020 W4 and the person 's marital status is married filing jointly select 04-Married Both Working. The IRS published new tax tables on 12/20 make sure you have those. In 1g the amounts the amounts are 12,900 if married filing jointly or 8,600 otherwise. BSI had the updated table prior to 12/20 which can be reviewed in TaxFactory Quick Formulas.

For those of you that have EMSS patched to the 10.0.8 level, can you please share a print screen of what the new W4 screen looks like? Do you feel it is functional enough to push out to the employees or will you be waiting for further patching?

Thanks! BSI found that we needed to replace a file on the server to get the cyclic version on our message viewer to match in all 3 places. Once we did that, the federal withholding was matching.
