Query for Multiple Document Types

I was asked to have a document added to one document type, but then show the document on an IDM widget where another document type is already being presented. 

So I was wondering if there is a way to change the advanced query on the IDM widget to show both document types at the same time without having it be separate views. 

Since we are not provided the full syntax to modify, I'm guessing there is no way to change the search to a collection, but I'm curious.

I found that the new update to the system provided a more advanced search feature that resolves this issue. We can now extend the query by adding multiple searches to a list. So I searched for all documents in the Finance Document Type, added it to the list, and then searched for a specific document in the Payroll Document Type. This will automatically create the search criteria by using the UNION clause to combine the different Document Types.  

Here is the correct search for the example above: 

/MDS_Finance UNION /MDS_PayrollDocuments[@Name LIKE "%W-4 Form"] SORTBY(@Display_Sequence ASCENDING)
