Managing Inconsistent Manufacturing Numbers/Formats

How are other organizations dealing with inconsistent manufacturing numbers. There is a vendor that has the mfg# on the package with dashes 05-45-05 and dots 04.45.05, but their price list and NuVia is without dashes and dots. Which to choose? What a quandary!

We use what is on the package for the manufacture number since that is what the clinicians see. We push an item master to Epic and our nurses search for the item number by entering the catalog number on the package. For the PO13 vendor number we use what is required for EDI PO processing.

We put the packaging number as the manufacturer number on IC11. PO13.3 is the reorder number. My issue is vendors like Trianim or "any Ortho Vendor begining with S" will put dashes in their contracts but bomb out EDI unless we remove them.

It is very aggravating and breaks the link on GHX to check pricing.
