Prior to loading patches for the 2020 W-4, PR13 listed my marital status as "Married" which is code "02". I installed the W-4 patch for EMSS. When I access the Tax withholding bookmark which is the 2020 W-4, my marital status from PR13 is not populated. Therefore, I click the radio button for "married filing jointly". When I save this change to my W-4, my marital status for federal is changed to "Married Both Spouses Working" which is code "04". I did not check the 2c button which indicates multiple jobs. I simply selected "married" and saved.
Why is the status changed to "Married both Spouses Working"? I made no change to indicate my spouse was working. Is this just another way of describing "Married Filing Jointly"? When I go to PR13, the marital status is "Married Both Spouses Working". I have read that payment modeling through the EMSS bookmark using form PR89 has not been updated for use with the new 2020 W-4. When I model with this Status of '04' "Married Both Spouses Working", my taxes escalate and reflect the 2c "multiple job" tax rate.
We need payment modeling updated to work with the 2020 W-4. I can disable the bookmark from EMSS, but I will also have to remove the "Model" option at the bottom of the 2020 W-4 bookmark.
Sorry to ramble, but this is confusing to me. Can someone explain why the marital status is changing once user clicks "Married" on w-4 bookmark? THe marital status is changed to '04' - Married Both Spouses Working. The paper 2020 W-4 has Married Filing Jointly. Why did infor change it '04' - Married Both Spouses WOrking?
I appreciate any insight into this change in Marital Status.
