Portal Change with V10
todd-brown
Can anyone give me an explanation of why Portal had to go with V10, and LSO and Ming.le are now the only option? I was asked this question earlier and really had no reason.

Hi Todd -
Short answer is that Lawson was acquired by Infor and Workspace (which has become Ming.le) is Infor's standard browser based user interface across all our products. Many customers will run more than one Infor product in their corporate environment and Infor Ming.le provides a single common user interface against all those applications. In addition, there is more functionality and usability features possible within Ming.le than were ever delivered with Lawson Portal. The "Portal" itself has not really gone away in the v10 architecture, it has now morphed into a plugin that resides within Ming.le.
Smart Office is supported on both 901 and Lawson 10 environments and still maintains many power user functions that are not present in a web-based UI. Smart Office is still the recommended user interface for power users, just as it was before the acquistion.
Hope that helps.
Hans
