Dynamic Job Scheduling

Hello - relatively new Lawson admin here - I have an HR user who runs the PA100 every Monday with a data parameter of the day prior. This is the only parameter that changes. I would love to enable her to be able to schedule this job using the recurring scheduling tool, but it doesn't appear that a dynamic date can be passed for the job. Is that true? Is there no way of scheduling a job with a changing data?

We do not have IPA, Process Flow, etc. We are on v.10.

Hi Frances, can anyone there code in 4GL (Lawson COBOL)? Lawson has canned code you can call from a custom 4GL program that you (or a consultant) would create, that will update job parameters and then submit the job. You would then schedule that custom program instead of the user's job. If you've got a COBOL programmer there, I can point them to some info. This would be one way to accomplish what you want to do without using IPA.

Dump the job parameter with 'jobdump' - use whatever tool you like to modify the parms (I'm a shell script guy) - use 'jobload' to update the job. When it runs next time from 'recdef' it have the new parameters

Another option would be to schedule a sql job that updates the PARAMS column of the JOBSTEP table in your GEN database for the user's job.

Hi @david-schronce and @pbelsky - all good recommendations, thank you. We do not have any COBOL experts on the team but I'm muddling through, so that could be a longer term-solution. An update in JOBSTEP is more immediately feasible so maybe we'll give that a roll too. Thank you!

Just remember that any updates to the PARAMS column in the JOBSTEP table are position dependent AND LSF version/database specific.

When you upgrade to another version of LSF or install a CTP that alters the table, you may need to update your parameter update logic.
