New to Infor CSI Syteline - How do I do this :)

Got about 8 months under my belt with this new dev environment. Been tasked with this request from a client...We have some reports (SSRS) set up and schedule via "Actions/Background". They are created and an email notification does get sent out. All works fine.

Sadly, when the Stored Procedures return no data, the reports and emails are still created and sent out !! Not fine.

I've looked around but can't find a way to stop this process if the record set returned is empty... Is there anyone out there that has found a way to do this and will share how !!

If you can manage this straight from SQL on a job or event such as a trigger, you can easily accomplish this.

INSERT INTO [tag:tempTbl] EXEC dbo.SPName @Parm1, @Parm2

IF (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM [tag:tempTbl]) > 0

EXEC dbo. BGTaskSubmitSp @Parm1, @Parm2 blah blah

If you know the report name, then you know the stored procedure and the parameters passed in. You could run the procedure and store the results in a temporary table, check for the number of results and if it is greater than 0, shoot the ActiveBGTask out. Which will be picked up from SL and handle it from there. The downside, is the SP gets ran twice potentially one for the check for data and one for the report. Also, if the SP updates any data, that would probably not work as well. Just an idea.

Perhaps you have different users than I have seen in places where I have worked - but I find that having the empty report sent to the users is necessary as they otherwise think that the report didn't run. Is there a reason why sending the empty reports out is a problem? Is it going to a lot of users?

That's what the SOP is currently. But as users start getting more emails with no data, they come calling

So, they can get all their reports (some with no data) and multiple emails knowing that the "report did run". And others are asking why can't they just get emails for reports with data

(and then maybe bug me to see if a "report did run" !! I don't know which is better for me personally !! hahaha So, at least I'm trying to find a solution if one exists to help !!

Another option is Sharepoint integration where they can go and refresh a report without having to go into Syteline and manage their own notifications or get live data whenever they want.

That is another option. Thanks. This client loves print...The short answer for this is "have the user go and get this information from a Dataview whenever they want"...My goal is to move this client in that direction some day
