Customer Order Lines Cannot be Deleted when they have a Job Attached

I have been asked to write a form script so that customer order lines cannot be deleted if they already have a source job. My question is - why is this not already done?

I understand that a job gets UNLINKED when a CO line is deleted, but why would I want a bunch of unlinked jobs? Doesn't it make sense that if the CO line gets deleted, the sourced job should be deleted as well? What am I missing?

A Job Order can manufacture for stock. This is the destination of Inventory. We have unlinked for this reason. We also have unlinked for jobs that manufacture for multiple customers. But your question is probably more geared to why not delete the job when the co line is deleted. I suspect it is because you may have APS and other tools already looking at the job for planning purposes. If you delete the job without looking at it then you may be loosing WIP or mess with the production schedule. Infor probably thought it safer/easier to force the staff to make a deliberate choice to delete the job. That is my guess.

Biggest thing I could think of, would be how to handle the case of the Job Status, and Completed Quantities. Rules in place probably would not let you delete Jobs not meeting certain of those types of parameters. But as long as it fell within the parameters, why not. In fact, a Job that suddenly gets Unlinked to its demand without anyone knowing, is probably a worse issue. Perhaps the Event System could help with that aspect.
