Inventory levels to help us track PPE usage

IC44 displays "Days on Hand" but Infor can't/won't share it on a report or really how they calculate.

IC233 is the Availability report

As our usage is insane, we're not really trusting the IC44's Days on Hand anyway - we export the Available (Either from the 223 or sql formula: SOH Qty- Allocated Qty from the itemloc table) and put it through Excel insanity with current patient counts and expected growth patterns.

I've asked Infor about IC44 and they shared with me the calculation. It is current month and last month usage only. I'll see if I can find the exact calculation they sent to me and post for all.

Because usage is so fluid I created a Crystal report that calculates ADU for selected critical PPE over a rolling 21 day period ({ICTRANS.UPDATE_DATE} >= CurrentDate -21).

ADU = SUM (Qty Issued [for {ICTRANS.DOC_TYPE} = "IS"] / 21)

Stock Out Days = (SOH - Allocated) / ADU

21 (or 30) days is ok for current levels assuming constant usage. How do you account for seasonal items/usage? If you normally have stock that is used more often in the summer, how do you differentiate that from COVID spike usage?

Without getting to inundated with data, knowing min, max, mean monthly usage and annual distribution would allow for more accurately identifying the criticality of a particular item.

All the models predict exponential usage, so we're tracking usage over 14 and 7 days, and then using the max of those 2 calculations.

This is looking at PPE critical to this Covid-19 crisis. Including usage prior to this crisis only serves to dilute the data. The ADU drops, stock out days increase and the stock out date moves out. Now the report doesn't show a true picture of when we'll be out of critical PPE. At one point the report included a subreport that showed ADU for July through December just for comparison but we dropped that. What PPE usage would spike during the summer?

I think the question was more on how to differentiate seasonal spikes from COVID-19 spikes.

Forecasting in healthcare has never been easy - it's not like toilet paper that (current state excluded) has a very flat usage curve. Yes, you can look at the surgery schedule to anticipate some items, but we don't have massive warehouses, or unlimited budgets, and with short shelf life it's a moving target
