Does anyone allow their LP plans to go into a negative balance? If so, do you have a limit on the negative balance?
We just started allowing employees to go into the negative a few weeks ago. So far the limit is two weeks of standard hours.
Traditionally we only allow employees to go negative if the employee's company leadership ok'd it ahead of time.
Since COVID, our largest PL (not subject to FF-EPSL) is allowing employees to go negative up to 36 hours. They are also allowing any employees in their 6-month wait period to use all of their accrued PTO before their eligibility date, as well as go negative 36 additional hours.
Jenn, I would be interested in speaking to you if you have time to get more information on how you allow only a specific group to go negative. We currently do not allow negative balances, but would like to find out more about this option. Please llet me know if you would have time to speak today.
Sure Eva but there's no secret - we do it manually. When we pull in our time records from Kronos, we get warning messages if regular use PTO will go negative, and then we delete it from the PR35.2 unless we've been told to allow it.
For the COVID use, I created a separate PTO pay code that we can report against if necessary, but that uses the same payment description as regular PTO for the pay stubs. We did not put that COVID PTO code in Kronos - only our payroll admins use that pay code.
Our benefits manager is tracking everything COVID-related, and he sends payroll the employees who need either EPSL-Self, EPSL-Family, EFML,, or PTO-COVID, and the amounts.

Darcey - We are going to allow up to 80 hours negative. Currently we are set up to allow PTO accruals on PTO usage. Are you allowing accruals on negative PTO used?
Mary,
Yes, we are allowing accruals on the negative paid time off that is used. Our sick time does not accrue when sick time is used, so that stayed the same.
