Curious question, Infor OS - IDM Doc Generation vs Exstream (StreamServe)

Would like to get others views around using Infor OS (12.0.40 - On Prem) for generating standard output (example:  PO's, Customer & Rental Invoice, etc.) vs Exstream 16 (upgrade from StreamServe 5.6).     Is there anyone out there that may be using IDM's prebuilt templates/output?

 

We have M3 13.4 On Prem with StreamServ 5.6 for generating our standard output along with some customized documents; ie. Purchase Order, Rental Invoice, Customer Invoice, Picking Lists, etc.       We are currently considering an upgrade to Infor OS 12.0.40 (from Ming.le/XI/OS 12.0.25) to utilize the new features and extensibility tools available.   Maintenance for StreamServ ended May 30, 2020 with instructions on moving to Extream 16.  Just trying to determine if an upgrade to Exstream 16.x is needed or if the latest Infor OS/IDM Doc templates will be all that is needed.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts that may be out there.

by default i would try to get as many as possible of the STD- and MOD-documents over to IDM Output Management (only in Cloud Edition).

But, the possibilities of modifications in IDM-output is limited...

Companies who have a lot of business-logic on their documents, built in Streamserve/Exstream, should have a talk with their 'process-owners/document-owners' to see if their documents is OK with following the IDM-output-templates...cost/benefit.

* one-to-many-logic... one document sent to several destinations, in different formats (pdf/txt/etc.)... still not supported by IDM-output

* adding external information on the documents using api's etc... still not supported by IDM-output

* barcodes used on labels sent to label-printers (zebra/intermed/etc.)... still not supported by IDM-output

If you are planning the journey to Cloud Edition, converting your Streamserve-/Exstream-documents to M3-XML-format is a must.

This means creating your documents from scratch. But once it is done, all document-config (incl. custom-fields) built in M3-onprem will be part of the M3-migration to Cloud Edition.

I strongly suggest you keep paying the Streamserve/Exstream-maintenance, until you are sure you won't be needing Streamserve/Exstream for the modified documents!! Buying the Exstream-software 'from scratch' is expensive.
