Dependent Option on BS01
Legacy Contributor
Does anyone know what specifically the dependent option flag does on the BS01? This is a "new" option in new versions for ESS, but there is so little documentation on it and what it does or how it works. Can you give an example of how it works if the flag is set to Y or N?
Thanks for your help,
-R

I'm not on a version with that flag yet, but I think I saw it in a differences document. It was described as showing the dependent update forms during enrollment rather than the current process where a user needs to exit enrollment, enter dependents, and then go back into enrollment.

If you have a benefit plan that allows dependent enrollment, selecting Y on this option will cause the employee's dependents to be listed and allow the employee to select which of their Dependents should be enrolled in the plan.

Yeah I found out that you have to have version 10.0.1 and above of ESS for the dependent screens to actually appear in the Enrollment process, even though the Dependent Option exists on the BS01 in earlier versions of the Apps, including 9.0.1.7, etc.

We made some minor modifications to our 9.0.0 ESS system so the benefit enrollment link would first present our employees with the dependent screens. We put a Next button at the bottom that would then take them into the standard benefit enrollment screens.

Enclosed is a document showing how the dependent option works. Basically, at the beginning it shows the employee a list of their dependents and gives them the option for adding additional dependents at that time.
It is true that the dependent option is available in 9.0.1.7 and you need to be on 10.0.1.0 EMSS or later but 10.0.x EMSS is backwards compatible to 9.0.1 applications and is the upgrade path for EMSS. The current progression of versions for EMSS for 9.0.1.x and 10.0.x applications is....
9.0.1.5
9.0.1.6
10.0.1.0
10.0.2.0
10.0.3.0
...there will be no more 9.0.1.x (i.e. 9.0.1.7) releases of EMSS.
