Qualifying Life Event

Employee waived out of medical coverage on 1/1/2020.

Employee had a baby on 7/25/2020 and wanted to enroll in Medical as a qualifying life event with child.

Medical plan has entry points of 1st of month after date of hire.

When trying to add medical plan with qualifying life event, error says, "Start date 7/25/2020 must match entry point"

It is looking at the medical plan entry points on BN15 plan set up which is first of the month following date of hire.

Any way around this?

Great question and I hope someone has a good way around this. Right now we leave the re-enrollment dates as No Entry Points to accommodate this, but it makes for a mess with rehires, as they are considered re-enrollees.

We create an enrollment with the first of the month effective date(7/1/2020). Then we do an add for the correct enrollment date(7/25/2020) and delete the one with the first of the month. This will put an end date on the 7/1/2020 record(7/24/20). As long as no deductions have been taken against the 7/1 record, you can delete it from the employees record. Best to do both at the same time.

Hello, in this situation, our benefit administrator used the following procedure:

1. On BN16 for the group that the employee is in, change the entry point that is causing the error to the desired start date.

2. Enroll the employee.

3. Change the entry point back.

This does not affect the plan (BN105 does not need to be run).
