We are running S3 on VMWare / Windows / SQL platform on premise and deploy Windows patches religiously on a monthly basis for security and compliance reasons.
Since our infrastructure, Microsoft and Infor have all evolved over time and demand for system availability has increased it has become increasingly difficult to make this a transparent exercise.
Our typical monthly deployment consists of 5 to 10 KB's
Would anyone with an environment similar to ours be willing to share their protocol from a high level?
Specifically, we are interested in hearing about the following:
- How often you patch the OS and do you deploy all patches or just security / critical items?
- Is this done after hours or during the day when internal and Infor support are more readily available and how long is your typical outage window?
- Do you patch all the servers in your Infor technology stack on the same day?
- Are all Infor and application services on each server stopped and the machine restarted to flush memory prior to patch installation?
- How much post patch validation of system, and applications is conducted and by who?
- What is your DR plan, are backups or snapshots taken prior to patching and do you capture just file system or memory as well?
- What types of problems have you run into with systems or Infor services not starting or operating properly after patch install and what was your recourse?
Thanks in advance for any information that can be shared.
