Hi all,
We have a site that has had ongoing performance issues for some time now and we've been working with the IT company trying to find a resolution. They are experiencing speed issues where Opera is intermittently slow to perform. This occurs on different days, different times, different areas of the system for different users.
They are running Opera 3 VFP v2.70.00 in a standard network/client environment. They have a physical Windows 2019 host server and on this they have a virtual Windows 2016 Std application server for Opera 3. All PC's are running the latest build of Windows 10. The same issues have been present in earlier versions of Opera as well (this has been ongoing for months).
Specific areas where they have noticed issues are mainly cashbook but also other areas:-
- slow to login (up to 30 seconds)
- slow to open processing forms (sales, payroll, cashbook)
- nominal view 30 seconds to bring up the transaction screen
- cashbook processing > action > view, sometimes the view criteria window is slow to load (45 seconds), sometimes it is quick (5 seconds). After clicking ok to this window it can be very slow to load the transaction view (45 seconds plus) and sometimes a few seconds.
- saving bank reconciliations sometimes takes minutes for small bank recs.
- posting from within a bank reconciliation is sometimes excruciatingly slow but not always.
- cancelling a bank rec very slow - 2 minutes to get back to the header screen.
Between us and their IT company we have tried/checked the following:-
- checked for blank records in tables (none found)
- applied the Windows 10 reg keys
- removed the Windows 10 reg keys (they get an illegal error in Opera but no data issues/corruption)
- AV exclusions but also tried removing the AV from the app server and an end user computer with no difference. They use Sophos.
- Ensured volume shadow copy is not enabled on the Opera server
- Excluded Windows indexing from scanning Opera files/folders
- Virtual switch configuration on Hyper V host server – disable ‘RSC’ in the vSwitch. Further information in this Microsoft KB - https://docs.microsoft.com/sl-si/windows-server/networking/technologies/hpn/rsc-in-the-vswitch?view=vsts.
- Updated Realtek firmware drives for the laptop Dell Docks
- Tested 1 laptop to using USB NIC instead of dell dock NIC and - no improvement
- Tested network cabling
- Checked switching, 3 x Netgear GS728TP switches in place, all running 2016 firmware (build 6.0.0.18)
- Tested file transfer rates from clients to server and back again, in-keeping with 1Gbps expectations
- Confirmed in the past that no resource on VM or endpoint is saturated when opera slowness occurs. (CPU / RAM / DISK / NETWORK)
- Checked switch ports for packet loss:
- All switches showing very low resource utilization (average of 5%)
- As part of network fine tuning/diagnostics disable interrupt moderation, jumbo packs and tweaks to MTU settings were tested.
- I've attempted to replicate the issues offsite but I've been unable to. This is probably because I'm only running their data on my local laptop but if there were data issues I would have thought I'd see similar problems present.
We are now running out of ideas and would appreciate it if anyone else has any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Alex
