IE9 - Status Bar Messages
todd-brown
We are testing a rollout of IE9 and I notice that the status bar does not display messages such as 'Inquiry Complete', Job Added, or any error messages on Lawson forms. Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I don't see an option to enable this in IE9?

We have our Lawson server in the trusted sites list , and have IE compatibility on.

Trusted sites is important or make sure that Allow status bar updates via script is enabled for the internet zone in custom level options.
Another easy one - check the right click and make sure that Status Bar is checked to display

There’s a KB article 550047 “Status bar displays “Done” instead of correct message”
Don’t know if this is the same situation you’re having.

IE9 comes with the status bar turned off as the default. The easiest way to turn it back on is to right click on the icon of the little house located in the upper right corner of the window and then select "Status bar".

Thanks for all the responses. My issue is not that I cannot see the status bar. I see it on the screen, however no Lawson messages appear at all. Its just blank. I don't have google tool bar installed, as I know that was an issue. So still researching.

Be sure you have
“Allow status bar updates via script” enabled in your IE settings.
We have Lawson in our trusted sites so this is where we have this setting checked.

See JFichter's response.
Navigate to the "Internet Options" > Security > Local Intranet (we have ours saved as a trusted site here) > Custom Level (button) > (pop up window) Scroll down to "Scripting" and enable the "Allow Status bar updates via Script".
The selection should be 5 from the bottom.

There are some IE settings required to make Lawson portal work properly. Please see the attached document. Thanks

I think that status bar check is what we had to change for users, a few months back. When everyone was getting IE9 pushed, apparently it deafulted to that setting being unchecked.

You may also want to check "Automatic Prompting for File Downloads," under Downloads in Custom Level. Whenever an internet browser is updated that will also change, which will keep from seeing the "Open, Save" option for exporting to a CSV file in print mngr.

Okay this is strange. Now, after checking all the settings here is what happens. When on a form, HR11 for example, when we click the inquire button we can see the 'processing inquire' on the status bar. When the inquire finishes the status bar is blank again, but when we move the mouse off the inquire button, 'inquire complete' shows up on the status bar. Same for Add, Change, etc. Any ideas?
asztudenyak
That is exactly how ours works - I even have it documented in my OneNote. We consider it to be normal behavior as we have never found any way to change it. We simply instruct the users as follows:
"Status bar messages will not appear until cursor is either moved below the first 4 buttons, or placed over the last button. "

hmm, ours does not work like that. status bar updates as soon as the inquiry screen updates. doesn't matter where the cursor sits.
What version of Lawson are you running and what platform (windows or unix)? Are you on Windows7 or 8?
asztudenyak
Platform is Windows. Desktops are Windows 7 Enterprise. IE is 9.0.8112.
This just started with the push of IE9 several months back. We've never found a way around it.

We are testing Windows7 and IE9 now

A couple more setting you can check....
-Active scripting – Enable
-Allow status bar updates via script – Enable
-Scripting of Java applets - Enable

Not sure whether this is an issue, but our Network guys found that when we pushed out IE9 - Compatibility mode had to be switched on.
Results seemed to be unpredicatble if this was not on.
michael-parkhill
Even if I set compatability mode on my browser, my results with the status bar is still the same. It updates regardless of where my cursor is.
Did you try turning off compatability mode on your computer?
asztudenyak
Compatibility mode does not change the behavior for us. Frankly, the messages appear when the cursor is ANYWHERE below the buttons at the top, so most users never even have an issue.

I guess you can just chalk it up to another odd behavior of Lawson and IE.

Maybe way off base - but how do the users get to the portal? Does the link end with /lawson/portal/ or /lawson/portal/index.htm? If the latter is used, change to the former and refresh the cache and the user's desktop cache to see if it helps.
asztudenyak
Our link ends with /lawson/portal/.
jacob-jellison
Is this happening on any other form?
Did you confirm that the HR11 does not have any design studio mods or end user exists that might be altering the behavior?

Not sure about the OP, but for us, this behavior is application-wide, on both vanilla and custom screens. I am adding a screen shot to clarify the behavior. It really isn't that big of an issue. I am using HR11 simply as a convenience - but all screens work the same way. If I click on the Inquire action, the message "Inquiry complete" will appear. Now, not moving the mouse, the message will disappear almost immediately if I had used the left Inquire button, but it will remain if I used the right-most Inquire button. Once I move OFF either button, (above OR below) the message will be shown in the status bar. If I move to any of the buttons to the left of the right-most one, the message dissappears.
