ESS browser availability
Legacy Contributor
We are in the process of enabling external access to ESS for our employees. We are finding that this is only working with IE browsers. Are others able to do this with i.e. Google Chrome, Firefox?
Thanks.....

If you use links directly to the ESS function, they do work with other browsers. For example, Current Benefit Inquiry would be
lawsonserver/.../currentbenefits.htm
. To determine the direct link for each function, use Bookmark Manager.

This is our biggest complaint by employees. The Lawson portal only works with IE. You can deliver the ESS bookmarks individually on your own page without using the portal to get around the browser issue (which is why Lawson says that ESS supports the other browsers). The portal is the limitation. This won't be an issue with Workspace/Sharepoint once you get to S3 10.

IE is the only supported browser for us, and we state that right on our ESS splash page. If our users want to use ESS, they must use IE.

We purchased a product from ITK that provides cross-browser support for the Lawson portal. Wasn't too expensive, and installs in about 5 minutes. It will make modifications to Lawson XML and HTM pages, so if you've made modifications of your own, you'll need to test and/or re-implement those changes, but it works well for us with all browsers.

We allow ESS access for our users via FireFox and IE, but, only within our firewall. Externally, they must VPN in. As for the ESS application, we created a separate PortalRole to exclude the standard Searchbox, as this is limited to Microsoft APIs.
