queue and wait times
autumn-boyette
Hi,
I am looking for a way to add queue and wait times into a manufacturing order

We use the Move Hrs field on operation cards for that.

We also use Move Hrs for drying time for Paint. We are working on getting a way to automatically deduct a day's worth of move hours every day, once that process has started, so the schedule is more accurate.

We also use Move Hours in the operations cards. There are a few things to remember...
The move hours will use the same calendar as the primary resource i.e. if the resource is available for 8 hours per day and you have a 10 hour move time, it will cover 2 days. If a week end is involved, it may cover many calendar days.
As soon as the operation is completed by the operator, the move time is no longer considered. i.e. If have an operation has a 3 hour run time and a 10 hour move time, when the operator completes the operation at the end of the run, the scheduler will no longer consider the move hours at all.
Lastly, assuming you are using Visual scanning, the time does not accrue, even when 'clocked' into. Visual will only reduce the time allotted when a quantity or partial quantity, is completed.
(You can use fractional quantities for operations with a total quantity of 1. For example: if an operation is 33% complete, but no parts are complete, the operation can have a 0.33 completion. This will reduce the time remaining by 33%. I have not tried this one, so I cannot verify 100%)
I find move hours are useful only for scheduling in a long look.
Hope this helps.

I can verify that if you have an operation that takes say 20 hours oper part, and you are 50% complete with the operation, if you report a qty of "0.5", the scheduler will only schedule the "remaining" 10 hours on the next schedule.
Agree, that wait time is only in effect as long as the operation is not reported as completed. As soon as it is complete, the time is no longer considered by the scheduler.

I always put the move delay in the following operation. Not that it's right, that's just what I do knowing that the previous operation would have no delay if it were complete. It's a hope that the schedule would give a delayed start rather than a delayed finish. (not tested)

In our case we have several steps to our paint operation, each of which requires drying time. What would make sense in our case, is to do "percentage completion" on the Move Hrs. Say, for example, we have 10 hrs of labor, but 60 hours Move hrs. If we have 5 hrs of labor done, then the Move hrs should be reduced to 30 hrs. As I said, this will require custom programming, but is what makes sense for our particular use.

Notes that move time is applied after the operation completion time so it does not act as a delay for the operation it is listed on, it acts as a delay in starting the next operation.
Tom,
We also have several steps in our painting process that require drying time. Each of the steps is represented by a painting operation card. Each can then have a wait time listed with it. Operators scan to the paintstep they are performing. We only run the scheduler once a day so the schedule plans out the painting process step by step with the appropriate drying [move time] required by each step. We only have one shift as well so the "Loss" of move time when an operation is competed in the shift is not an issue as the overnight time suffices and the next operation can schedule right when we start up.

I thought about breaking our paint operation down like that but hadn't proposed it. I sure wish VTA had the Operation Spec on each WO, you know, "PRIMER COATS", "FINAL ASSEMBLY", etc. It sure would avoid a lot of confusion and log-ins to the wrong operation.
