Physician Integration into Hospital GL
We are merging a large physician practice with multiple clinics into our current hospital Lawson GL. We want to know how other hospitals have accomplished this task and would ultimately like to incorporate a best practice structure. Our revenue system is EPIC. We would appreciate any advice you can offer. Below are our some specifics to our situation.
The hospital's Accounting structure in Lawson is currently one company that is 2 digits, Accounting Unit (Department) 5 digits, and natural account 4 digits. Our levels are set up at SVP-2, VP-2, Director-3, Department-5 (posting level). Our departmental GL Reporting is currently done from a reporting software product called Budget Advisor which is an Excel based product.
The physicians currently use Great Plains GL. The physicians accounting structure consists of Department-2 digits, Division-2 digits, Site (location)-2 digits, Revenue Center-3 digits-contracts not running through pt. revenue, and account code-4 digits.
Two key things we need to be able to do are 1. Attach a provider code to certain expenses, including employee level in payroll. 2. Report by location. There is also a desire to report contract revenue by site.
We are looking at potentially combining the physicians Dept/Div/Site into one Accounting unit and identifying sites by designated accounting units for reporting. We are entertaining using subaccounts for a provider code. We are also entertaining the idea of utilizing process levels, zones, and/or activities ledgers. We would like to stick with a one company structure and will need to provide reports for 2 main entities with separate tax id's, hospital and physician group (which will only contain physician expenses in it and Physician Service Agreement revenue). Also need to provide clinic reports, specialty reports within clinics, and potentially reports by physician. There is some reporting needed for physician revenue contracts.
Thanks for your time and we look forward to hearing from you! Carrie Fangman
