EMSS Open Enrollment - Issue with new hires
Legacy Contributor
We are currently testing EMSS open enrollment and have run into an issue with new hires. If an employee is hired after October 1st and they elect our supplemental LTD benefit, that benefit does not start until after 1/1 because there is a 90 day waiting period. In my testing, I have a new hire test employee with an LTD enrollment date of 1/24/2014 because that is the date they become eligible for the benefit. If I then try to use EMSS open enrollment for that employee, I get an error message "You cannot use web enrollment, contact the benefits department. You already have benefit elections which begin after the annual enrollment date."
How are other companies using EMSS for open enrollment handling these situations? Do you not allow new hires to use on-line enrollment?
Any advise is appreciated!

We have the same issue. We hold new enrollments for EL and DI plans until after open enrollment ends. I'd love to hear that there is a better option though!

You will need to create two separate employee groups for open enrollment: one that presents employees with all of your benefits (all benefit-eligible employees hired before 10/1) and one that excludes your supplmental LTD beneit (employees hired after 10/1).
The system will allow all employees to complete annual enrollment, but only those employees hired before 10/1 will see the supplemental LTD selection. (The other employees would have already enrolled in their supplemental LTD selection in their new-hire benefit enrollment.)
