Uploading local files using WebServices or Dashboards

Hi all,

 

recently there were some discussions how to upload local files e.g. to a relational database using APE (ReadLocalFile, RepositoryReadCSVFile etc.). Thanks for all the valuable examples and help.

 

What I’m wondering is: The user who wants to upload the file is using WebServices or Dashboards and therefore is working with the browser on his local client. But as the APE-process itself is executed on the webserver, the path of the local file name refers to the server side, right?

 

Let’s assume the user has a file on his local machine in C:MyFilesdata.csv and he wants to upload this file. As the user is not administrator he has no access to the repository administration nor to any share on the webserver.

 

How can a file from the local client machine be uploaded in APE when using Dashboards or WebServices?

 

Maybe I’ve missed this point in the recent discussions?

 

I’m referring to Version 11.

Yes when running over the browser the local path will be the web server.  So the way to do read a local file is have a button on an Application Studio report to execute the 'upload attachment' action which will load the file to the repository and then pass the unique filename to APE and use the  RepositoryReadCsvFile() function.  This will work on both the web browser and Application Studio Windows client.
