BSI TF 10.0x.3 pointing to old Tomcat/Java

I upgrade my BSI from TF 10.0x to TF 10.0x.3 before upgrading Java and Tomcat so it points to Tomcat 7.0 instead of Tomcat 9.0. I tried rerunning the client install but it won't let me change the Tomcat or Java parameters. Is there a way around this without uninstalling BSI and then reinstalling it?

We are asking BSI for assistance as I have uninstalled Apache, BSI and upgraded Java, completed the reinstallation of Tomcat 9 and the installation of BSI; however, we get an error trying to log in.

When we check the task manager, it shows Tomcat9-TST1 is running.

Why would you not be able to re-install BSI? It's not a long install.

Can you just restore to a previous backup? (You do a backup before you begin *any* software --right?)

Can you verify which ports are being used? (netstat -a)

Did the install see that a previous port was being used and grab a new one?

I uninstalled/reinstalled BSI, that appeared to complete successfully. Now when I attempt to sign in to BSI, I get the sign in screen and after entering my credentials, I receive the following error:

Exception is: java.sql.SQLException: Cannot load JDBC driver class 'com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDriver'

Any ideas on what I did wrong?

Hi Mike, here is the doc I followed. It might help. We are on Java 1.8 I needed to use the sqljdbc42.jar file. Hope it helps.

Upgrading Java & Tomcat for SQL Server Customers

Java can be downloaded from the https://www.java.com/en/ website. Place the new Java version in the same folder as the previous Java version. No uninstall is required for a Java upgrade. The TaxFactory client will automatically use the most current Java version (if you do not browse out to a Java version during the installation and select next on the Java runtime screen during the installation-the installer will find the Java version for you). The Tomcat upgrade would require an uninstall and reinstall using the tfxxclientinstaller. Make sure you take screenshots of the current configuration using the review option in the installer. Make sure you know what your ODBC connection password is before uninstalling. After you download the Tomcat (32-bit/64-bit Windows Service Installer) from the https://tomcat.apache.org/ site and unzip the file, install Tomcat and accept the defaults during the Tomcat installation. Place the new Tomcat in the same folder as your current Tomcat version. You will need to copy the sqljdbc42.jar file from the Tomcat/lib folder of your old Tomcat and place it into the Tomcat/lib folder of the new Tomcat. Your jar file should be sqljdbc42.jar (if you have Java 8) if it is current. If it is not current, then you will need to use the link in the client installation guide pdf to download the new version (Version 4 download on page 16). Select sqljdbc_6.0.8112.200_enu.exe -unzip to a location and find the sqljdbc42.jar file in the JRE8 folder). Place the sqljdbc42.jar file in the Tomcat/lib folder of the new Tomcat (*if any other sqljdbc jar files are in this folder then rename them to .old (The Tomcat services would need to be stopped to rename them-restart the Tomcat services after renaming)). You will have two Tomcat options in the dropdown when you reinstall the client using the screenshots you took as guides (select the new Tomcat from the dropdown). Make sure the jar file is extracted from the Tomcat/lib folder during the reinstall. After the reinstall is completed and the url connects successfully then you will go to services, right click on the old Tomcat version and go to properties/select disable from the startup type dropdown/click OK or go to programs and remove the old Tomcat version.

I found the issue. After uninstalling BSI and Apache, again, I reinstalled the Apache and checked the folder permissions. I added the Local Users group to the directory with full permissions prior to reinstalling BSI and that appears to have fixed the issue.

I was missing mssql-jdbc-8.4.1.jre11.jar, once I found that online and copied it to Tomcat9.0/lib my error went away and I was able to sign in to TF10.0x.3. Now on to the BSI updates, then I have a couple of months to catch my breath before upgrading to TF11

I was running Tomcat7/Java7, now I'm running Tomcat9/AdoptOpenJDK
