Creating an event that when job closes it checks cost and triggers an email to be sent to manager

I am trying to create an event that will notify us when a job is closed and the cost is negative. Even better i would like to say if the cost is more than 20% greater or less than Current Unit Cost. I can create the event in the items form but it only triggers if you update the item costs form, not when a transaction updates the cost. How do I create an event to trigger on a transaction of Job Finish?

Did you ever get this working? I am trying to do roughly the same thing and was hoping for some guidance.

no I have only been able to get it to work when the edit happens on the form and not to the table. I do need to circle back and get this working so if you get any help or if I find anything I will let you know. I believe there is a built in event handler for job completion over plan that I think we could update.

I might be able to help, but my lack of the business logic side of CSI slows me down.

My first question would be why are you triggering off of the item instead of the job being closed?

This is a perennial problem with the Application Event System. If a change is made from a form then the change (in most cases, but not all) is made via the IDO layer and an IdoOnItemUpdate event can be used to generate your notification. If however, the change happens in SQL via a Stored Procedure then no such event is triggered.

The ongoing Infor Code Out project offers some long term hope that this situation will become less common but that's going to take some time. It's also less than clear to me whether the current (hopefully interim) practice of creating a C# wrapper around Dynamic SQL will actually help here. My guess though is that until the SQL calls are replaced by load/update IDO calls then we won't get much further forward - although I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

I can't see any out of the box Event Handlers relating to Jobs and Event Triggers can have rather unreliable timing. Your best option might be a critical number snapshot over a rolling time period of your choice with a drilldown. Look for Completed Jobs with a Last Transaction Date in the time period. Divide the Total WIP by the Qty Completed and compare to (Current Unit Cost +/- your chosen tolerance). Critical numbers can be emailed if essential (I know of someone doing this but not the detail of how it's done).

Wouldn't you be able to detect a Save on the "Job" IDO? (This is where my woeful ignorance of the business logic comes into play)

Our jobs are closed in Factory Track not an action in CSI, so my thought was to trigger on a material transaction record being added that was a job close type.

Yup that doesn't work. I know first hand. I was trying to trigger off an Insert into Material Transactions & it never worked.

If you're closing them in Factory-Track, take a look (if you can) at how FT operates on "close". I would think there is a triggerable action in there somewhere. (We don't have Factory Trak. Doc-Trak yes, but not FT)

Factory Trak just sends a IDO request over to Syteline request service, so it should occur through the IDO layer. So you could try IdoPostInvoke or IDOPostItemUpdate/Insert maybe. We are just starting with FT so not an expert yet.

the FTK flow is to create an unposted job transaction and automatically post it using ...eventually PostJobTransactions1Sp is used to post the jobtran record...you could extgen it and fire your event (asynch) from the extgen....you could also change the FTK form (assume End Run used) to call CSI assembly method that fires your event...theoretically...
