PEG112B DELIVERY MULTI PURPOSE GENERIC & DOT MATRIX PRINTING

Hi All,

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but we have a customer who has an epson dot matrix printer - they were using it with a windows 7 pc which was printing perfectly but since implementing a windows 10 pc this printer has started to cut off the right hand side of the delivery design.

We have tried amending the preferences on the printer and reducing the font etc but it still cuts off the same at the right hand side. They do have a customised design which is based on the report above so I no this report can be customised but I'm a tad confused how to do this.

Does anyone know what controls this report? Is it just the printer driver or is there code that can be amended for the report? We did find some .prg files which looked like code for the report but cant be sure.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Melissa, is the printer networked or just directly into the PC?

I have a customer who still uses Dot Matrix printing however the printers are networked, so on the server we have set up User Defined Paper layouts in the 'Printing Preferences' of the printer.

Do you maybe need to re-do the user defined layout on the Windows 10 PC?

Also, the printer drivers between Windows 7 and Windows 10 I believe can also cause issues but I usually leave that technical stuff to our engineers.....

Ah, dot matrix. Fond memories of the days trying to get cheque remittance custom paper sizes set up with a printer driver that would respect them and not drift out 1mm every 20 pages ...

In terms of any of the reports defined as 'Generic' under Report Layouts in Opera, you will see under the Memo tab that there is program code defined there. If you open the actual layout FRXFRT you will see that instead of the standard type of layout it is just a series of expressions like this from top to bottom:

ImpactPrinter(1)

ImpactPrinter(2)

ImpactPrinter(3)

So those ImpactPrinter calls read the program code under Report Layouts and return a string of text which is what gets printed out.

ImpactPrinter(1) will for example run this bit of code and potentially return the text 'CONTINUATION PAGE'

In addition with dot matrix there is the question of the actual dimensions of the paper. For non-standard paper sizes (i.e. not A4) you may have to:

Measure the paper and in Windows create a custom paper size with the same dimensions.
Install a driver for the printer possibly named 'Delivery Printer'
Attach the custom paper size to the printer and make it the default size in three or four places in printer properties.
Test by printing at least 5 in a row to make sure they don't 'drift' out of alignment.
If they do drift, amend the custom paper size or change the printer driver.
Repeat until working

FWIW all this came about in the days when dot matrix was still common and we were transitioning from Opera 16, and it was a way to get the same printing speed on dot matrix as was possible under Opera 16 and Windows 95Windows 98 when printing directly to the printer, i.e. not using a driver.

If you're thinking it would be much less bother to change them to a laser printer layout and just set it to print multiple copies then I would tend to agree!

Hi Claire,

Its a local printer however we have now shared this out to allow her to print ok from the windows 10 pc as a temporary fix for now.

I'll have a look - anything is worth a try lol.

Speaking to our Tech team they reckon it might be a win 10 driver issue.

Oh Melissa I do not envy you, I hate Dot Matrix printing, we've only 1 customer left using it as they are an oil distributor and cannot see ever getting them away from it...

We have had the conversation regarding laser but unfortunately the customer will not budge on this one - they use laser for everything else.

I know, this customer is in logistics apparently dot matrix is still a common thing in logistics.

Locate the record for say Report = sqincr and Document=gincr112B.frx and then change to the Memo tab
