ACA IRS Transmission Rejection Errors

My company is in the process of submitting 2020 ACA file to the IRS. What we had sent was rejected based on the following errors:

ErrorMessageCd: AIRSH100

ErrorMessageTxt: XML Schema Validation Failed - not well formed or missing required elements

What I found on the web indicates it is an issue with the XML data & formatting may not be valid. Which from what I understand there could be some extra spaces in the name, address etc., unrecognizable characters etc, foreign addresses.

My questions are

1) are there any other items we need need to look for in regards to the AIRSH100 error other than what I indicated above

2) does anyone use an XML editor or XML code validator program to make sure the XML file generated has correct or valid XML codes?

Hello,

we have gotten this same error in the past. We have not found a way to submit to the IRS with foreign addresses. As a workaround, we change all employees' foreign addresses to our corporate address, run the file and then change them back. That might not be the most effective way to do this, but it works for us and gets the file submitted successfully.

Are you validating your XML files prior to submitting to AIR program?

We spend quite a bit of time verifying/correcting our addresses ahead of time.

You will want to download the IRS XML Schemas. We use Notepad++ to validate and identify any errors.

You also want to be sure your foreign countries match the IRS countries as Lawson does not always match the IRS.

I have not and I think that is the big issue. What do you use to validate the file? What I have tried to use is the XML addin for Notepad++

Hello Julie,

I have downloaded the XML add-in for Notepad++ but now sure what to add in the field 'Namespace URI'. I know it says it may be in the header of the file...but do I copy the whole header info?

As an update we were able to successfully send the TEST file and received an 'ACCEPTED' notification. We sent over a PROD file and recieved 'ACCEPTED with Errors'. We have now gone in and fixed the errors and now wonder how to we create a new file? Do we have to separate by entity? In GHR when creating the IRS file we are prompted for 'Corrections Information' and when asked for IRS Receipt ID do we have to create ALE Member Submission form?

Any guidance anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

The IRS Receipt ID is the number from the original submission.
