We are experiencing challenges when we move an employee from the weekly pay cycle to the biweekly pay cycle and are wondering how others handle these changes.
When someone moves to biweekly we still have to pay their last weekly cycle check. We actually transfer the employee back to the previous "weekly" position, run the paycheck, then move them back to the new "biweekly" position. This doesn't seem to be a great process.
- Do others lock down employee changes on certain days in the payroll cycle? We currently do not close down payroll to changes. Once an employee has a time record the system limits changes but until they have a time record we allow changes to continue.
- Do you wait to process a change like this until after payroll is complete then make the change retroactive?
- When moving people from biweekly to weekly do you require that the effective date to be the 1st day of a biweekly cycle or can it be effective in the middle of the biweekly payroll cycle?
Your feedback will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
