How to create a connection point with IDM to build a datalake workflow ?

Hello,

I am a beginner and I would like to start in a simple way in ION by processing a CSV file that I have on my PC.

I understood that I had to create a corresponding template first.
Now I'm trying to figure out what steps I need to take to set up a file connection point knowing that my file only resides on my own hard drive and that I don't have an FTP server.

I understand that the next step is to install Enterprise Connector and then be able to create File connection points.
As this is a first step of discovery, I can't (yet) implement this solution because I don't have the "infrastructure" in-house to install this component.
Also, I was thinking of simply "compensating" for my lack of ability to reach my files locally by uploading them to IDM.
So I end up with files in the cloud.

I think I still need to create a connection point with IDM and then build a Data Lake workflow.

Do you have any instructions for me to follow to create the connection point with IDM?
Any other advice would be appreciated.

What you would do in your Enterprise Connector (EC) is creating a template. Based on sample CSV you can generate Metadata from template, which actually creates a schema for your custom BOD. Your EC will need a network share to access the file, and the link to it is something you define in File Connection point (that uses this samo File template). What it does is reading a CSV from that location and mapping it into XML. This XML is then sent from local EC to cloud ION and there you do the further dataflow. Basically, as we are on premise, some steps might be a little different.

Using IDM in my opinion is an overkill for such tasks..

I agree with you that IDM is not the right solution for my use case.
But, since I don't have the possibility to install Enterprise Connector at the moment, I would like to continue my exploration (the final objective is to understand the different mechanisms to feed a data lake and then see how to use it concretely)

So, in order not to be dependent on Enterprise Connector and to be able to continue, the only idea I thought of was to use the data storage that IDM represents.

Hence my question: how to create a connection point for IDM in ION?
Unless you have another idea to get around my difficulty of not being able to use Enterprise Connector?

IDM by design does not send document content through ION, but document's metadata (attributes that describe the document). For that you most likely already have a connection point. If you would like to get the document content you would have to use ION API connection point and create a REST method call in data flow. But then again you will be hit by the fact, that most likely document content will be base64 encrypted and you would have to use some kind of script to decode it. I don't know if this is possible as Scripting part of IONdesk is still not part of the on-premise distributions.

I don't think I'll be able to make much progress if I can't install the Enterprise Connector module.
I started looking for an installation guide and where to download it.
But I haven't found it yet.
