File Parsing

I have a very large .prt output file from a Lawson S3 job called FB111 that takes users a long time to open it as a pdf or csv file. They have asked us to parse it to search for a key word. Should this key word exist, they would like to be notified. the .prt files appears to be a text file, as I can open it in notepad. Is there a way to search this file easily in process automation.

If you are on premise I would use the native search of the OS using the system command node. So use either the Windows or Unix command to search the file since it sounds large. That would probably be the fastest way to check the file.

I would try using grep in a syscmd node, if you are able to do that.

Another way besides the command node is to either use a File access Read node and do an index of the output, or use a file channel and select "File Data" as your input. this will provide the entire contents into the _inputData variable and you can use an assign node with JavaScript:

boolKeyWordInFile = false;
}else{
boolKeyWordInFile = true;
}

Thank for the respond. I did setup a FileAccess activity. The code you supplied. Where would I put that script?

After the File Access Node, you'll create an Assign node, use the Add JavaScript button, and write the script there. Since you're using a file access (Read), instead of _inputData, you'll be checking FileAccess_outputData.
