Infor Tech-ed conference in NY May 3-5
unknown
Hello,
Has anyone ever attended one of these Tech-Ed conferences or is this the first one? I am looking to get information on Lawson Security upgrade from 9.01 to 10 and need instruction and have questions on advanced LS topics. I also want to understand the User Administration and authentication. I also need to know how to Administer whatever is replacing Portal .... Mingle? And how Smart Office fits in with all of this. the agenda of this conference appears to cover all of these topics but I have no history with this conference so I was hoping some of you could provide feedback.
I appreciate it ....Barbara Edwards

I haven't attended one of these, but last fall we started our upgrade from 9 to 10 in the cloud. I could send you an email with all of the user manuals you might need. I thought I heard at GLUG that the Tech-Ed sessions were much more useful than the Inforum sessions (for learning new things). That and I have had a few of the teachers that are teaching at the Tech-Ed and they were both very good teachers.

Thanks Rebecca...It sounds like positive feedback on instructor and the conference. I was considering attending Inforum but they had no sessions on these topics. Only a few Academy sessions and those either fill up or cost extra ... so this conference looks to be what I need. Thanks for the offer of documentation but we are not using the cloud. We are currently on Unix and will probably be upgrading onto Windows.

Hi all -
I posed your questions internally here at Infor and I received this response from my colleague Katarina Engvall in Infor Education:
Tech Ed is NEW. This is the first one. Focused on a lot of the technical topics clients have questions about. It is a Infor Lawson technical and Infor Lawson HCM specific focused conference with additional resources from R&D and Product Management. It include deep dives about specific topics, open labs for hands on and collaboration with Infor product experts and developers. (Get your questions answers and learn about best practices), panel discussions and more. I believe most of the topics you are asking about will be discussed at the conference or could be discussed in the open lab as well.

HI Barbara, one of the first steps for the 9 to 10 upgrade for administration is moving from LAUA to Lawson Security. There's various contractors who assist with this, we found it necessary since the new tool is completely different and setting up new rules, roles, .... we used a tool from Kinsey which captured our current setting to assist building those roles. I've heard lawson has a tool as well but have heard mixed things about it. Smart office was the next step we did - our power users love it; common users prefer portal (both exist). Then we upgraded Process flow to IPA (infor process automation) which you may or may not be a PF user. Finally we upgraded our 9 to 10 for the LSF and apps - new unix server. Portal is still there (it's not advertised at all, but it is what Smart office connects too). if you already use landmark products then Mingle seems a good way to have them side by side, but we use s3 lawson portal so we only installed landmark for IPA and didn't advertise mingle to users. we still use smart office. I've heard from it's "going away" by being rewritten into the future versions of lawson. it is a thick client PC install product. Not sure what it will be.
I haven't attended the Tech-Ed but I did go to Inforum. I didn't find enough hands on even in the hub or labs for products like Security administrator or mingle. Most focus was on end user products not admin needs. however, it was invaluable to plan the road map.

Hi Barbara,
The documentation I have is for Windows. We are on Unix and moving to Windows also. Hosting it in the cloud just means that everything is installed at Infor's sight and they manage the hardware and the majority of the administrative functions. The documentation is not cloud specific.
