Lawson - Human Resources Customer Community [READ ONLY]
TaxFactory 10
shirma-petronilia
TaxFactory 9 is scheduled to be decommissioned at end of November and yet Lawson / Info are not expected to release patches to support TF 10 until August / Sepember
This seems a tight timeframe for customers to react to get themselves in a position to apply 2015 tax bulletins.
Seems like BSI are now offering a service to support TF9 data bulletins at a cost of $1825 per month (2 month minimum) which I am guessing would allow the 2015 tax table updates .
I was wondering how other in the community are planning to address the TF9 decommission
We are 9.0.1.7 apps on 9.0.1.11 technology

We, too, find the initial action and tight time frame unreasonable and unfair. Infor will only have the API changes available by end of September. Leaving customers to install / test those changes along with installing the new BSI in but one month, October. For us, October - November are particularly busy as we focus on Open Enrollment for our institution.

I'm glad to see that we aren't the only ones that felt this was an unreasonable time frame. And as you mentioned Kelvin this is right in the middle of when Open Enrollment is taking place.
We contacted Lawson support about this since we are on an older version of technology and concerned that they will not retro fit the changes to this version.

Based on what I'm reading here, I'm assuming BSI version 10 is not compatible with Lawson versions 9X? And further, that Lawson will not have patches to support TF 10 on Lawson version 9X available until late summer?
If that is the case it really does put all of us still on version 9X in a risky situation at a very busy time of year.

Carolyn, According to the original notice .. BSI TF10 will be compatible with both Lawson applicaiton 9.01X and 10.x
But you are correct that patches for both the Lawson application and Lawson environment won't be available until Aug/Sept 2014
Since that time I got a notice from BSI that if you can't make this time frame they will support TF9 but at cost. Did you get that?
unknown
Carolyn, My response from support indicates that LSF 9.0.1.11 & 9.0.1.12 will support TF10. They also indicated that they will be ready roughly 2 months prior to TF9 decommision.

Thank you both for your quick response to my post! That helps me a great deal with our planning. Yes, we did receive the notice that BSI will support us on TF9 at a cost. However, we don't really want to go that route if we can fit in the upgrade now. Do either of you have any more specific information about what is included in the BSI upgrade. Not finding any information on BSI's website

The bulletin has not yet been released in BSI. Following is the information I was giveb when I sent an inquiery to their support folks: It is true that TF90 will be decommissioned as of 11/30/14. TF10 has been provided to Lawson and they are in the process of testing and certifying it before it will be made available to their customers. Once they have completed their review/certification of TF10, you will be receiving notices from both BSI and Lawson.

BSI did email out a notice on this subject. It went out last week on 03/06/14 and it came from customer.services@bsi.com. Attached is their notice.

Thank you both for your responses. Yes, we did receive the notice from BSI. I was just looking for a little more detailed information. I'll just sit tight and wait for more information from BSI and Lawson.

Thanks to all who have responded. I personally think this is really poor planning of somebody's behalf. A few years ago BSI and Lawson had a big mess up at year end and both parties were very apologetic and agreed that similiar events would never again be repeated.
However i guess the agreement / partnership may have broken down because the indicated timeframes are really tight to implement prior to year end
I would hazzard a guess that not only will it mean a Lawson 9.0.1 app patch but also a Lawson Technology patch to support the TF 10 binaries / compile scripts. We typically compile the BSI TF 9 modules via "cmptfxibm9". Our tecnology release is 9.0.1.11 and currently there is no cmptfxibm10 script
I did speak to a BSI representative about the prior notice and the charge to continued support. I was told that the notice of extended support was applicable to Lawson users WHO MAY NOT BE ON the 9.0.1 apps.
Those at 9.0.1 apps would have the Lawson patches.
I asked what happens if other priorities internal to our organization result in not being able to apply / test the patches by years end. The BSI indicated that it may not be beond the realm of posibility that BSI continue to release 9.0 cyclical bulletins or even delay the decommision
However I would not hold that response
Guess we will find find out later in the year what the final outcome is

This is the response I received from Infor support regarding supported technology levels:
"You will need to be on LSF 9.0.1.11, 9.0.1.12 or 9.0.1.13 (due out in May) to go to TF10.
Or for LSF 10, you will need to be on LSF 10.0.3 or 10.0.4 (and future service packs). An FAQ for TF10 is planned explaining more details than the critical notification from February, but it is not out yet."
This is the response I received from Infor support regarding supported app level:
"I can confirm that 901 apps will be compatible. Patches and docs are scheduled to be released in the August/September time frame."

Did BSI or Infor send that information to you? Would you mind forwarding it to me? For us to upgrade our LSF, install and test the new API's is going to be very difficult. June through September are particularly busy for us. My email is flores@cshl.edu.

I found this TF10 FAQ Final document in the knowledge base.

THANKS for sharing!! From my understanding, can't you upgrade to LSF9.0.1 ESP 12 now?
Has anyone done this?
THANKS

Cindy .. here is a document I got from BSI regarding if you can not make the transition in time... so there are some options.. of course there is a price tag attached to them.

What I find surprising is Infor has not considered their own contracts. Our maintenance contract indicates 9.0.1 is not end of mainstream maintenance until 05/31/2016 and there is no requirement for a customer to be at the most current release. Thus, contractually it seems we as customers cannot actually be forced to go to 9.0.1.11 now. I think the question should be why is this happening in this manner and why are we not being provided more non-cost options? Why are we forced to pay for there software change both in money and resources? Particularly, when we have not budgeted for either.

Do any of you pay BSI for any service level above Standard Customer Support Level? And, if so, why? I am trying to determine if the Standard Customer Service level recommeded by Infor is adequate. I do not want us to be nickled and dimed if it turns cout the Standard Customer Support Level service is inadequate.
Any thoughts?

We've been using BSI since we've been on Lawson (almost three years). We are at Standard Customer Support Level. So far that level has been adequate for us. Anytime we've sent BSI questions to support@bsi.com, they have always responded in a thorough and timely fashion. I am hopeful when Lawson makes available the API patches for BSI 10x that we will continue to have adequate support from BSI as we will likely need their input to upgrade to 10x.
