Handling Excel files in APE

Hi all,

I wonder if there is a way to open and read native Excel-files (XLSX) in APE, like it is already possible in Importmaster. In the APE-documentation I only find how to handle CSV-Files.

Very often users are maintaining data in Excel-files, because it’s easy, everybody knows how to do. You know, they just use the full flexibility of Excel and they of course want to keep this. Saving their files as CSV is an extra step, I’d like to avoid, because it might be forgotten very often.

What is the best way to work with Excel-Files in APE? Any experiences on this are appreciated.

The answer is no currently. The workaround is to do a File Save as and use a text file format. Hint - use UTF-8 encoding if your data potentially contains any Continental European specific characters.

Other hint - if working on the cloud, upload the text files to your repository as attachments and then there are lots of AE functions to process text file attachments.

Is this feature (handling native XLXS in APE) in Infor's roadmap and to come some day in the near future?

Please raise an Enhancement request and if other users would also find it useful there is a good chance of it happening.

I work for Infor and raised it on an internal call. It looks technically feasible. Remember of course that as when working with Import Master your file needs to be 'oven ready' - so the data in columns.

I built a POC where Excel Upload would have been useful but actually found save us pretty painless.

Also maybe worth remembering that text files can be better than excel. Consider the use case when your first column is period and your period is 01. Excel loves to convert the 01 to a 0 unless you know how to stop it!

I would like to reopen this discussion topic, about the processing and integration of excel files through AppEngine.

Since this last iteration with Ralf has there been any development or workaround that allows data integration through Excel files through AppEngine, in special to EPM MT?
