Early vs Late Delivery Date

Hey Everyone.

Background:

Currently we are using the early delivery date as a "do all" date, and is the only date we update on the purchase order line. We include the early date on the PO and when we get an updated ETA or backorder notification we go and update that date. We also have a custom email notification sent to requesters when the early delivery date is updated past 3 days. The early date is also the date we have populating on all reports.

We are aware though there is a "late date" field. We haven't really done much with this. Our reasoning up to this point is "why maintain/report on two dates instead of just one?"

Question:

What does everyone else do? Do you use the Early date or do you use both dates?

Any benefits you've noticed over the other?

What I am almost always looking for is the actual PO date and then, possibly, the Early Delivery Date. Without knowing the exact PO date, one cannot tell how long the item has been on order but so many PO system and ISD reports query only for Early and/or Late Delivery dates. For example, go to Buyer>Manage Purchase Orders>Line Search; there are fields for 'From/To Early Delivery Date' but no field for the PO date. We are like you in that we only update the Early Delivery Date. We don't do anything with the Late Delivery Date. One date field is enough to manage. For the majority of PO reporting we do though is based on the PO Date in the header. The date of purchase order is the most important to us for reporting. The Early Delivery Date is for our Requesters to know when the supplies are coming in.

Agreed the Purchase Order Line Search list does not have a Purchase Order date and we believe this limits our searching abilities. It would be helpful if this screen contained this filter too.

You can Personalize your PO Line Search list by adding CREATEDATE and then create a filter in Personalizations. In ISD the field is PurchaseOrderDate

True, I had done that. I may put in an Enhancement Request asking for the inclusion of the actual PO date in any report that pulls the Expected Delivery Date. The two fields are often requested by our end users. If they are told that a product won't be immediately delivered, they usually want to know when it was ordered. Just wondered if anyone else ever noticed the lack of PO date inclusion or if I'm just being picky. Thank you for your input.

Are you asking for PO date to be added as an additional column on the PO Line Search list so that it is available if/when you export the list to CSV? Or something else?

Hi Sandeep, Yes, the PO date is vital information and it should be stated anywhere that the Estimated Delivery Date is offered. It should be built into the PO Line Search field as well as other reports. Another example is: Inventory Manager>Inventory Information>Demand And Supply. Again, the report is built to supply the PO Estimated Delivery Date but not the PO Date. (A personalization of Create Date can be added .) Thank you, Julie Deen

We also use the early delivery date for everything as it's most visible to end users and simpler. I believe it's intended to provide a range within which the supplier is supposed to deliver. In practice, we don't find the late delivery date useful for our needs.
