Test for already running IPA ?

Hello,

Is there a way to test when starting an IPA, if that IPA already has an active workunit? Basically test to see if it is already running.

We are running into a situation where an IPA is waiting, but the wait ends up being longer than the scheduled interval for the IPA so the next scheduled time for the IPA comes and it kicks off again. With database operations this is a problem...

You could incorporate a step at the beginning of your flow to check PFIWORKUNIT.STATUS = 10 (waiting). If so, then complete, if not, then continue processing.

Below is a Landmark transaction node query that will validate against Workunits of the same Flow Definition that are currently in Process:

_dataArea="<!appProdline>" & _module="pfi" & _objectName="PfiWorkunit" & _actionName="Find" & _actionOperator="NONE" & _actionType="MultipleRecordQuery" & _runAsUser="" & _authenticatedUser="" & _pageSize="30" & _filterString=FlowDefinition = "<!ProcessName>" and PfiWorkunit != <!WorkUnit> & _relationName="" & _setName="ByWorkunitIsInProgress" & _asOfDate="" & _effectiveDate="" & PfiWorkunit

after that node, you can use a branch that continues to process if nodeName_recordCount == 0

I've validated that the above landmark transaction query returns Workunits that are in a Waiting status as well as processing.

I found this article after I posted and basically it is what you both are advocating to do:

I think instead of doing the subprocess and the wait, I will do the landmark transaction at the beginning of my flow, and then either exit or continue. The flow i need this for runs on a fairly tight schedule so no need for the wait, but there are times it has been delayed so being able to exit will be a good thing.

NOTE: There are some race conditions that can catch you when trying to perform this kind of function. I recommend leveraging the IPABP-WorkunitGoverner2/2b.lpd method to avoid race conditions.
