We have acquired a new entity and will need to upload direct deposit info for the PR12 for the new employees. For those of you familiar with uploading to the PR12, would you recommend the PR512 or Addins? And why?
Addins if you are a pro in using them
If I have a choice I will always attempt to use Add-ins over one of the import programs because the programs usually have to be formatted a certain way and a lot of the time you have to include fields you don't need even if they are blank. With Add-ins you just have to add the fields you need to an excel spreadsheet and map them to the field with Add-ins.
Add-ins are more user friendly, especially when it comes to date formats, as jreese mentions. If you have a large number of records to import, the batch conversion programs are faster and more reliable. If you put a header in your file, you don't need to specify all the fields. I have had add-ins hang up or give random "false positives" (saying a row imported successfully when in fact it did not) with large uploads, but you can be sure that whatever is on the conversion program report has been done.
If you don't nave many records, add-ins is simpler. Just make sure that you use the query wizard or sql afterwards, to confirm that everything you think uploaded, has in fact uploaded.
I have used both. I prefer PR512 because it loads faster and is more reliable.
