Changes to dropdown in CSI Syteline 10.0.0.574 Multi-Tenant

We are very new to Syteline and am not sure if this is even the correct place to post this.

We are trying to do something that seems very basic to a drop down. We are changing the component class: CustNumForBillTo.

The goal is to see the COMPANY NAME first and the CustNum second so we can search on the company name. CustNbr does not mean anything to our users.

We then want to return the CustNum.

Seems like something that would be an easy think to do, but I cannot find a way. If I change the display fields to show Name and CustNbr, that works great and I can search by the name as we would like - but then the NAME is returned instead of the CustNbr.

Hopefully I am missing something simple! The Source specification below is the only think I modified to show the Name 1st and then the CustNum.

An alternative in your case might be to have a custom field with a search box bound to a variable. And then use that variable as a filter on the IDO collection list. Or something to that extent.

Thanks Ryan, I found that in the help as well but was thinking there must be a way around this. I can't believe we are the only ones that find that really bad. It would be fine if you could SEARCH with the second column but that is not the case either. Is there a way to do some sort of customization to allow this I wonder? We are so new to CSI that I am not sure what can and can't we done in the web environment. The big problem we have is our customers change their names often and since we cannot change the customer number we have to make a new one and that causes a whole host of new issues. What a mess. Thanks for the response!

You can use a ListBox (not in Toolbox) that gives you more control over the display of the contents via Form Script.

To make it work, you will have to use a variable for the selection value and update a hidden property with the selected value. I only do a variable in the below example code:

Sub WarehouseEdit_Changed()

'List of selected Warehouses.
Dim WhseList As List(Of String) = New List(Of String)

'Get the selected values from the WarehouseEdit List Box.
For i As Integer = 0 To ThisForm.Components("WarehouseEdit").GetListBoxCount() - 1
If (ThisForm.Components("WarehouseEdit").IsListBoxEntrySelected(i) = True) Then
WhseList.Add(ThisForm.Components("WarehouseEdit").GetListValue(i, 0))
End If
Next

'Update the report parameter with a space-delimited list of selected values.
ThisForm.Variables("vWarehouse").SetValue(String.Join(" ", WhseList))

End Sub

With that, you can display the values any way you want and use the code above to use the value from the desired column (GetListValue(Row, Column) ) in the ListBox.

Otherwise you are restricted to having to use the value in column 0 of other components.

Not sure if this will help you in your searchability of the ListBox, but that is the only component that gives you the control you desire.

Wow that seems like a such a complex workaround to something that should be so simple. I have never seen a system that does not offer the ability to choose the return field in a drop down. Kind of disappointing!
