EM/QM material list - for CAD BOM to Visual EM/QM checking
unknown
I am looking for a way to view the flat BOM (EM) to show all the material that have been called up in the EM.
I have looked athe Material availability list as a possible solution but it doesn't allow me to sort by part description or SKU. Also does not allow me to export to a spread sheet.
I could look to write a report to do this but I am thinking there should be an easy way to do this built in.
I am an intermittent user of the software but the team here has a requirement to look at the list and make sure the compare it to a list provided by our Cad system.
My first step is to look at a manual BOM compare system then look to have it set up as a custom report to automatically compare a CAD BOM to a Visual EM.
thanks for any help you can give me.
Stephen

Stephen,
Have you tried the Bill of Material report under the Eng/Mfg menu?
You could also start from the Eng Master in the Mfg window and go to File - Print Engineering Report. Then you have to hunt around for the BOM but it is there.
Both these reports can be sent to excel by selecting File instead of View and saving as a csv file.
The Bill of Material report is probably a lot more useful because it can open more then one level of the BOM and is much easier to use for your purposes.

There are two places you can explode the BOM through multiple levels of EM's in Visual.
1. Eng/Mfg - Bill of Material Report / Costed Bill of Material Report.
Be sure to uncheck the box titled "Explode top level parts only". This gives you an indented BOM where you can see all parts at a glance. The information on the BOM reports is limited, we are working on getting leadtime and inventory info in the report so its useful for planning. An enhancement request has been submitted to Infor in this regard.
The BOM reports will explode ONLY engineering masters, not Work Orders.
2. Eng/Mfg - Manufacturing Window - Explode Estimated Costs.
This has a lot of information and is a bit clunky to read, but it has all the subcomponents, is in a grid view, and can be exported to Excel. One thing that is nice about the EEC is that you see all the operations involved in the engineering masters for all the sub-parts. So if one of the parts goes out for anodizing or other long-lead-time process, you can see it.
Besides being somewhat difficult to read, the EEC also does not have any planning info such as leadtime, on-hand qty, on-order qty, etc.
The EEC will explode both EM's and WO's.

Also, for comparing CAD to ERP, you might check out QBuild's CADLink:
About 1 min into this demo, I think your question is answered:

Any canned report in VISUAL can be modified to add any field you want using the Report Builder application that comes with VISUAL. If you search for 'Extended Query' on the knowledge base, there are some good resources to get you started.
Otherwise, for the more experienced report writer, BOM Reports are a fun, classic exercise in recursion. Attached is a part maintenance macro that outputs the Engineering Master BOM to Excel.

Jeremy, I want to get part info like leadtime, on-hand qty, safety stock, etc, onto the BOM report. I also want to get the BOM report to run multi-level for both EMs and WOs. Is this difficult? I am not familiar with the report writer for Visual, I do reports in Synoptix. Feedback I have had is that the report builder in Visual is difficult to use and its hard to bring in field not available to the canned view-sphere provided with the stock report.

Tom
I should mention that modifying the QRP template will only affect the view, print, and email outputs, not the csv file. If your ultimate goal is to get these additional fields into a spreadsheet, than this is probably not the way to go. If that won't be a problem, then message me and I can help you out.
