In Item Master (MMS001) what does Status 30 mean and / or do?

Good Morning!

We are starting to dabble in Item replacements, substitutions, related items, etc.

One of the things I noted in the Item Master (MMS001) Status is that in addition to “Status 20 – Released”, there is also a “Status 30 – Alternate Items Available”.

I haven’t been able to find out a whole lot of documentation for Status 30, and I am curious if anyone has some deeper insight?

• Is a Status 30 simply a “Release Item” that has Alternates / Related Items?
• Does setting an Item to Status 30 do anything in the backend other than indicate that you should also look at Related Items for this product?

I agree that this is a bit confusing.
You can use option - 13 from MMS001 to define Alternate Item(s) as per below.

It is possible to update the Status Manually to '30' to indicate that 'Alternate Item(s)' exists, but I'm not sure if it will automatically change it to '30' though.
I would rather rely on querying MMS020 to see if replacements exists than this Status.
