Using Configuration Cycle in a reporting cube

I would like to create a reporting cube based on BPCMAIN, for my client to access in Self Service and Excel Integration. As part of the new cube I need the Configuration Cycle as well but as the user would not recognise for instance CYCLE_001 as a selection in Self Service, I want to show them the actual name of CYCLE_001, as configured in BPCCONFIG_CYCLE e.g. :"Budgets 2021". Is there a way to create a new dimension for this scenario or else, how can we access BPCCONFIG_CYCLE to get the value for CYCLE_001 while accessing the new reporting cube and select a value for BPDCYCLE? Also, if possible to create a new dimension, how would you define the OLAP rule to populate this dimension entry from BPCMAIN to BPCMAIN_XXXX.

The OLAP RULE in example BPCMAIN_REPORTING, hardcoded CYCLE_001, but I would like it to be dynamic.

Hi Ansa, until captions are added to the Cycle dimension, the relatively simple way would be to create duplicate of Cycle dimension where elements will have same unique name, but will use captions (translations). Reporting cube will have same formulas then and you will have user-friendly captions (like Budget 2021, for instance).

Thanks for your response Nick! Is there a way to dynamically then populate the Caption of the new dimension (copied as you suggested from the Cycle dimension) or would you manually add the caption on an annual basis.

Personally, I would create sync AppEngine process that would take elements and their names from d/EPM standard cube and create custom dimension based on that. However, this means you need to know where d/EPM stores name and able to write AppEngine process. Is there any d/EPM consultants available in your team?

Our PCYCLE dimension only has 2 attribute tables. So we could add a 3rd table with a description attribute.

But I wouldn't want to waste an entire table on one attribute.

Instead, I would steal an existing attribute from the Attribute 2 table (which is "languages"). I would add the description under "Japanese" or some other language you don't use. Yes, it's a hack, but it's the easiest way to do this.

Thanks Nick. I will try and see if I can manage the AppEngine process. If someone has an example of how to change attributes in AE, even if it was for another dimension, it will be greatly appreciated though!!

Thanks Mike, but I would guess you still need AppEngine to populate this attribute?

If the dimension is small, you can populate it by hand. We have a process that imports an entire dimension from SQL. I have attached the Dimension parts of the process and a small sample of the table for importing attributes for the PTIME dimension.
