Xtend : read a table starting from a position

Hi all,

I'd like to know if we are able with the xtend database API to read a table in a way that we would be able to choose at which index position we start the reading (not in a filter manner so).

Does anybody have any idead about that ?

What do You mean about index postion ?

Some database has that concept others not. ROWID exists in Oracle for instance.

the idea is to have a similar behavior than on a M3 screen.

For instance you use a sorting option on MMS002 that lets you set WHLO and ITNO, the list will return a number of sorted records (the sorting will obviously depend on your sorting option), but the two parameters (WHLO and ITNO) don't act like a filter, rather they make your records reading starts at a choosen position in the sorting order.

In Server side You must create a Loop and read records until the row is founded.

Unless You use a Key to find initial record.

Using expressions and filters you can do a position based reading. The difference is that instead of using EQ or NE, you will be using GT, LT, GE or LE and specify where you'd like to start.

this would indeed work in a scenario where you only have one key, when you have more than one key, you can't (in my opinion) start reading at a choosen position

ex imagine that in MITBAL you have the following records

CONO / WHLO / ITNO

100 / WH1 / ITN1

100 / WH1 / ITN2

100 / WH1 / ITN3

100 / WH2 / ITN1

100 / WH2 / ITN2

100 / WH2 / ITN3

let's admit you want to start reading on the third line, if you use WHLO GE WH1 and ITNO GE ITN3 in an expression factory, you won't read line 4 and 5 (because ITNO is not GE ITN3).

Am I correct ?

Good point, what about ge on cono or ge on whlo or ge on itno. Wouldn't the or statements in between solve this issue?

this solution unfortunately does not work, probably because each part of the or statement is evaluated separetly, so when you set an expression with WHLO >= WH2 or ITNO >= ITN1 you get records with WHLO = WH1
