Excel Integration: Infor.Read.Slice

In Excel Integration I was trying to use the formula INFOR.READ.SLICE to see what it could do. It appears this might enable collapse or expand of members in a dimension. However, I could not get the formula to run completely. It comes back with a #CALC. I tried to find documentation on this formula, but there isn't much there.

Can you provide an overview/example of how this formula should be used?

INFOR.READ.SLICE formula does not work like a classic Custom Function as it needs to have hashed slice definition string as an input argument. There is no way how to build this string using Formula Engine as of now and so when you use it in a manual way, it won't work. What you need to do is to use 'Ad-hoc Report' UI to create the formula because it will - as part of the process - create both the formula and also the hashed slice definition string (in very hidden sheet).

We have plans to have multiple Custom Functions to allow users building slice definition based on input arguments and also we will introduce parametrization, etc. However, before doing that we need first to focus on the rich feature set of the Ad-hoc Report.

Thanks for the info VIt. When you create an Ad hoc report though it seems you are not able to select the members that appear in the navigation. It seems the only behavior of adhoc is to show the whole dimension and all members in it, right? I was looking for a way to have the best of both worlds - where you can select the members or parents in a dimension and be able to expand collapse, just as you can in self service or app studio.

This is something we are going to improve next year (we have it in the roadmap but I don't want to share any timeline yet). You will be able to manually select items or use selections like Children, Level, etc. and of course you will be able to do expands in there as well
