Looking for input on moving to on premise

Hello!

We are investigating bringing our Infor/Lawson system in house and would appreciate any input on issues faced, pros/cons of on prem vs hosted..

Hardware needed, staffing needs. Do you have technical staff in the functional depts (HR/PR, Finance, Supply Chain)..or just in I.T.? Dedicated employees in I.T. to Lawson or multifunctional?

Any details would be appreciated. We are currently on V10.

Please pardon my curiosity, but I am wondering why you would make such a substantial move since Lawson will be unsupported in a little more than 4 years. For what it is worth, we are running v10 on premise.

We have been running since 1997. I would say it is not hard to maintain.

Infor has stated

"full Mainstream Maintenance for all Infor Lawson version 10 products will be provided through at least April 30, 2026".

It says "At least". Infor / Lawson has supported its customers in the Past.

Hi Marcia - I am surprised by this stance. I am not an expert on cybersecurity, but I can tell you that protection from such is more than a full time job. And Infor running on AWS has had an enormously successful track record. For example, the recent log4j issues that surfaced in December were resolved within a weekend in our cloud, whereas on premise customers have had a much lengthier process and much of the burden of resolution (on premise) has fallen on customers themselves (scans of all apps, patching apps, etc). In addition, we have heard of numerous on premise customers who have had various ransomware attacks themselves due to openings in their cybersecurity protections - issues not experienced in our ST v10 cloud or in our MT cloud.

Jason is correct - our stated direction is to MT cloud ERP. We have published that we will provide mainstream support through at least April 30, 2026. That may seem a long way off, and certainly there could be an extension of that date (although such an extension would probably only be for P1 and Regulatory issues with little to no feature functionality improvements). By the time you brought your system back in house (which I am guessing would probably take at least a year), you would be facing decisions around another significant project in short time. While we support v10 on premise and in ST cloud, we are no longer selling v11 anywhere but in MT. So making a significant investment in hardware and in house training/skills would only be temporary in nature. Last I checked, the average v10 environment took 10+ servers per environment depending on your footprint (and so if you had three environments, you are looking at significant data center impact (yes I know, there are others that run leaner than that).
