Capture Member Caption in Application Engine

Hi guys,

I am having an issue capturing an element's caption (the intrinsic attribute) in an application engine. I can get attributes values that are stored in the attribute tables, and the member name too, but I'm trying to get the element's caption (according to the documentation, this is the Description intrinsic attribute. Do any of you know how I can do this?

Is this V11 or V12?

What string are you passing as the element name to get other attribute values? Surely this string is the caption?

This is what I have so far:

When I convert element to a string, I get the element's name, but not the caption.

I thought I could use OLAPGetStringAttribute to get the intrinsic attributes that Application Studio shows, but that doesn't seem to work.

I intend to save this to a table in the staging database.

I think I’m with you, I believe the attribute name your looking for is: ATT1_NAME (this is a built in attribute, may even be “NAME” or “DESC”)

or similar, I’m not at my pc atm

Can you send me a snippet of the element preview with the attribute name your trying to retrieve.

Also is this V11 or V12?

This is V12. In Application Studio I can get it with MEMBER_CAPTION. Let me try your suggestions.

This works fine for me.

1) I use Version 11

2) You have to use the attribute NAME, not the description. (They can be different.)

3) See attached screenshots and code. The results are shown in the final screenshot under the Output tab.

I'm still reviewing this, and I found on the documentation that the intrinsic attribute "Caption" returns whatever attribute is assigned as the member caption in the dimension attributes or the element's name. If the dimension has an actual attribute named "Name" or "Description", then it can be accessed with the OLAPGetStringAttribute command (assuming it is a string). I wonder, then, if there is a way to query, via engine, the dimension properties and identify which is the attribute assigned as the caption.
