Is there anyone currently using AM "well" that would be willing to collaborate on their best practices?

I'd be interested in this as well. I use AM, and I'm not a huge fan to be honest.
I've noticed some serious issues in reporting (AM260 and AM255), that I've had to reconstruct myself through table access, which is what the report should be doing in the first place. AM260 doesn't show something very basic like current period depreciation and AM255 is a complete, indecipherable mess when exported to .csv format.
My company uploads to AM from excel using the AM15.1 screens, but that doesn't allow for activity code additions, so that is a additional manual process. This is what most people advise of the use of AM20 screens evidently, but I'd love to get the activity code in the same upload. I haven't had a enough time to really experiemnt with other addition uploads. I'd really love to have a access to upload templates for Lawson, but it looks like people don't really share that for whatever reason.

I checked with my AM expert on the Property, Plant & Equipment team. She says: "We have the same issues that these individuals are posting about. We have worked around a lot of these issues with our MSAddin’s (now ODS) reports. The AM260 only has some information and we use it for reconciliations but to get a true asset listing, we have needed the help of ODS or other reporting tools. We do not do uploads for the AM15.1 screens, these are done automatically (for equipment purchases) through the purchasing interface with AM. For activity additions, we use the AM20.1 screen (quick add) to manually add these assets as the activity interface does not work for our purpose and caused us a lot more effort to get things cleaned up. We chose to do these manually shortly after Lawson was put into place and has saved us a lot of time compared to the Lawson preferred method of activity interface." So the ODS she refers to is our reporting environment that utilizes Crystal reports, but MS Add-ins would get you the same information in an Excel format. The activity interface she refers to is the AC160, which we are not using. Does this help?

Don't know about the "well" part of that, but we have some 20K+ assets over 12 companies in AM and not having any huge problems. We have made the switch this year to adding all Assets thru AC projects rather than using AM20. Would be glad to talk it over; share training scripts I've put together for my users; or share upload files for either AM or AC. Yes, AM255 in CSV is a mess when used from the Print Manager Create CSV, but I think I've deciphered it and have been able to use it. I have an open Incident with Infor right now. There is evidently a patch that provides an additional "dtl" csv file in the Work folders, but I haven't been able to get that working yet either (in portal - works in LID). We don't use AM260 much . . . mostly AM280 but it rings a bell that the CSV on 260 didn't include some fields. Seems like we did an enhancement request on that, but I just looked in Infor Communities and I don't see it there.

Thmcauley, how are you adding additions through AC projects?
regarding the AM255 issue, I build my own report equivalent of AM255 by querying AMASSET, AMASTITEM, and AMAUGROUP tables and caluculating projected depcreciation in MS Access. I was also able to show depreciation by item by doing a simple prorata allocation.

You could also use Crystal to create a report that pulls/calculates the pieces you need. Are the assets feeding over from AP using Templates?

I'll upload the script my folks use to capitalize an AC project. It's in Word, so feel free to use any parts that you might find helpful.
