Voluntary Benefits on the BN32
unknown
We have several voluntary benefits such as Pet Insurance that our employees pay for through payroll deduction. We enter the premium directly on the PR14. Has anyone added these types of benefits to the BN15 so that they are available on the BN32? If so, what Benefit Type do you use? I don't see Voluntary Benefit or Other as an option.
We have to manually stop the deduction when the employee is no longer benefit eligible, and it would be easier to see all benefits on the BN32.
Does anyone track Voluntary Benefits this way? Are there any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi Cindy - we don't have our voluntary benefits set up in BN15 either because we don't consider them true "benefits" in the sense that RS, DC, HL, DN, etc. plans are. It's a pain sometimes to remember to end date the PR14s, but we have it as part of our termination checklist to drill and look for the deduction codes. One caution in adding them to BN15/BN32 would be in calculating the employee true compensation - whereas the regular benefit plans would figure into overall compensation, the voluntary ones would not. That's our thought anyway.

Thanks. The overall compensation is something I hadn't thought about. Thank you for pointing that out.

We have set up some "non-benefit" items as benefits to allow employees to make elections via self service. These extra plans have been set up under the RS type with a category of Legal Account. This allowed us to set up the plan without the usual RS functionality (i.e. end date defaulting to 12/31). We have not run into any issues with this set up but we do most of our compensation reporting outside of Lawson.

We have also set up a couple of vol benefits on BN15. I used DI plan type to set up STD and Family Protection Plan. Allows employee to elect via ESS. Automation rules end date coverage/deductions.
For our other vol benefits, we have a process flow that runs nightly to end date PR14 records for termed and ineligible employees due to a status change.
Total compenation reporting is handled outside Lawson.
