Is anyone exporting Excel XLS from IPA?

Hi,

I am generating a file from an IPA flow that needs to ultimately be in excel xls format. I can easily generate CSV, JSON, and XML, but I haven't found a way to generate XLS. I've tried some scripts outside of an IPA flow to convert the file, but there are limitations. I'd like to find a way to do this from IPA if there is one.

What type of deployment are you using?
ST? MT? or On-Premise?

We are currently on single tenant and leverage perl scripts to generate XLSX output, however since the sys command is not allowed in MT you won't be able to use this solution. We're currently in the process in preparing for a move to MT and this is definitely a pain point, as there doesn't appear to be a sufficient alternative. Data Lake and BIRST seems like the only alternative at this point. Still open to other ideas though.

Thanks, Andy. Our thought right now is that we will export a CSV file to an SFTP site, and then from our local server, we will pull the file from SFTP and run it through an SSIS package to convert the CSV to XLS before sending it to the vendor. So that's several gyrations to go through just to get it into XLS format for the vendor.

I have a node to create a sys command that runs a powershell script that imports the csv and converts to an excel file and saves that in the directory you need to export to.

writes this to a file and than executes the powershell script, is this what you need/

Oh, I see that. Yes, a SysCommand node. I don't think I can do that in MT.

Good afternoon.

For On-Premise solutions I would recommend the option discussed already; perl module executed in SysCommand.

For MT solutions, you can not use that strategy.

You may, however, be able to use the "Export to CSV" format=excel option to achieve this. Someone would need to play around with it to see if they can get it to work. I think it is ReportDocument, create action .. might be able to take that action to create an excel file

If memory serves I think I tried that previously with a WebRun activity to create the ReportDocument but was getting a data context / security error. Let me try it again...

The previous example WebRun can function if the header is modified to include "C.LWSN" and "SSO.CSRF" in the Cookie header and and SSO.CSRF header. Of course, the associated values were grabbed from an existing browser session so it's not a functional solution.

Here's a low tech hack - if the recipient is receiving a file and is just trying to open it with excel by double clicking it - what about exporting the csv and just rename the file with .xls extension (even though it's csv). Let excel do it's thing?

I know it's an unlikely fix- but it worked once for me.
