Different manufacturer numbers for the same item with a different uom

Anyone on Version 10 - Do you create two Lawson numbers for items that are the same but have different manufacturer numbers only due to a different UOM? We have created an exception process with the Boston Scientific items that have BX 5, BX10, BX20, etc. We pick one option that all want to order and only set up 1 Lawson number. Medline is now doing this but creating different numbers for the same item for BX and CA. How are you handling these with more and more vendors doing this? Thanks for any process sharing you can provide!

We use the same Lawson number in instances like this. Just update PO25/PO13 accordingly.

Thank you Wayne - do you use Contract Management or is all pricing loaded directly into PO25? We can only have one default vendor item in PO13 so we would have to switch it back and forth pretty regularly or educate requesters to change the vendor item manually on the requisition so maybe we have different set ups but would love to hear more details.

As GTIN become more important, the use of different manufacturer numbers for different UOM's become more logical. That being said, if an item has different manufacturer numbers, it is a different item. Some suppliers price the lower UOM differently than the higher (not a proportionate cost). For these reasons, I build a separate item number for each manufacturer number.

This also cuts down on the potential errors of one cost center accidentally ordering the wrong UOM. It takes minutes to build an item, but unwinding an error can take far more time.
