stress testing for s3, landmark and ghr

General question for anyone who is on-premise customer.

what do you use for stress/load testing? 

is it useful to prevent potential issues/outages?

do you get anything else out of it like automated testing  to save time on upgrade testing?

Stress, Load, Performance testing are always a valuable exercises, even if they are labor intensive. 

There are several readily available tools, the one that you use is dependent on where you plan to run from, which components you plan to test, and where your S3 & Landmark is installed. Open source and commercial. We have both, but the commercial packages tend to be more user friendly. 

To test Portal or simulate a user load, any browser POST/GET generator can be used. For core S3 functions, Scheduled batch jobs in addition to  command line scripts can be used. And don't forget database and system monitoring tools.

If you are looking for worse case scenario:

+ Payroll,

+ Month/Quarter End

+ Open enrollment

+ Then add system & database backups.

But it really depends on what modules you use the most.  

It also depends what experience you have with existing programs.  During our upgrade(s), we often see some anomalies with some programs (much longer run times), that prompted Incidents and subsequent CTPs.

Bottom line: If it's important to you, test it(!),starting with what's most important.
